Role:
The Lead Social Worker is responsible for oversight of prevention services, child protective services, foster care services,
and CINC adoption home studies. Assist with case management as needed. Determine if and/or when family preservation
cases close or move to the next step. Serves as a member of the CINC team. Provides on-call rotation for abuse/neglect
investigation determinations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises 4 employees, which includes but is not limited to: assigning and reviewing work, instructing, training, establishing schedule, setting objectives, recommending hiring and disciplinary action.
  • Ensure workers complete tasks and meet timelines for Prevention Services, Child Protective Services, Foster Care Services and CINC adoption home studies.
  • Ensure workers are adhering to abuse/neglect timeline for showing up on scene, completing reports from abuse/neglect investigations, and, if applicable, submitting petition to PBPN Judicial Center within appropriate timelines.
  • Assign eligible abuse/neglect cases to family preservation and determine when a family preservation case can close or be moved to CINC case. Assign CINC cases to case manager after adjudication hearing.
  • Ensure CINC children are placed in least restrictive environment and with family when possible. Ensure CINC children are being visited in-person in their environment every month.
  • Ensure case managers are implementing a case plan within 60 days of adjudicated CINC case. Ensure case plans are updated as needed, but no less than every 6 months. Ensure case plans are team oriented and team players were invited and/or provided an opportunity for input on the case plan.
  • Ensure case managers are submitting court reports by the deadline. Ensure case managers are attending CINC hearings as scheduled. Ensure case managers are following all court orders.
  • Ensure biological parent(s) are getting proper visitation where applicable.
  • Ensure that case managers are meeting the basic needs of CINC children and gathering pertinent data and resources when needed. Ensure that case managers are applying for all resources for CINC children.
  • Ensure that CINC adoption home studies meet requirements and are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Ensure documentation is completed within assigned time frames.
  • Assist with case management when caseloads are high and/or CFS is short-staffed.
  • CINC Team Member. Meet no less than twice a month with CINC team to discuss CINC case progression. Assist CFS Manager with ensuring that CINC Team is operating as a team. CINC Team Lead will assign tasks. Worker will provide assistance with: locating tribal, local, or state resources for families as related to case plan goals; filling out guardian paperwork for CINC youth; meeting with agencies and other staff to address client needs and concerns; transport youth; monitor and supervise visits.
  • Monitor and approve family preservation case closures. Assist with case management of prevention, child protective, foster care services, as needed. Serve as a member of the CINC Team.
  • Complies with the Nation’s policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintains professional communication with all employees, management, and people outside of the organization.
  • Maintains the integrity of sensitive information and always upholds confidentiality.
  • Attends professional development workshops, organizational meetings, etc., as directed.
  • Maintains full-time status by working a minimum of 40 hours per week within the assigned scheduled hours. Understands the need for a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the position which may include working outside normal working hours, overtime, and holidays. Arrives at work on time and submits leave requests in a timely manner.
  • Complies with ON-CALL responsibilities by remaining reachable 24/7 either by cell phone or email and the ability to report in person within a reasonable timeframe, as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

Experience*

MINIMUM: 6 months of direct social work experience; specifically, case management, child welfare and/or foster care. 6 months management experience.
PREFERRED: 6+ years of similar or related experience.

Education*
MINIMUM: Masters in social work, current Kansas Social Workers license with the BSRB or willing to be licensed within 6 months by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.

Driving Requirements*

Valid driver’s license free of occupational restrictions. Must be insurable with the Nation’s insurance carrier.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements are based on an 8-hour workday and may vary to meet the demands of the department.

The position requires significant physical exertion, including agility, dexterity, and stamina. Duties involve frequent walking, standing, bending, and squatting, with some crawling, climbing or reaching above shoulder level. Repetitive use of hand and feet movements for fine manipulation, or tasks like lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects up to 100 pounds. Keyboarding for 4+ hours daily, with an average of 4 hours sitting, 1 1/2 hours standing, and 1 1/2 hours walking. Required to operate motor vehicles or equipment. Occasional travel and overnight stay may be required for training and conferences.

Work Environment

The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights, under extreme outdoor weather conditions, subject to possible physical attack or mob conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.

Daily vicarious exposure to other’s physical and emotional trauma experiences can have severe and lasting effects on workers. May enter an unsafe or unsanitary environment while performing job duties; unsafe conditions such as verbal and potential physical conflicts are not allowed without law enforcement back up. May encounter abrasive, unpredictable, and violent people.
